Water Conservation in Marin County: Restrictions in Effect

Living in Marin County, California has great perks. The residents enjoy beautiful weather 95% of the year and rolling hills covered in lush native plants and animals. However, living in California, it’s important to be aware of water consumption.  The state is particularly prone to suffering from a drought and by following these restrictions and guidelines we can help prevent contributing to the ongoing water scarcity issue.

Marin County Restrictions:

Starting December 1, 2021, the following restrictions will be in effect:

·         Outdoor irrigation is prohibited until May 31, 2022. You may still water by hand.

·         Any fully drained swimming pool may not be refilled.

·         The filling of any swimming pool for which application for a building permit was made after December 2, 2021, will not be allowed.

·         Covers are required for all pools and spas. Liquid pool covers are acceptable.

·         Do not wash cars at home.  Go to a car wash that uses recycled water.

·         No power washing.

·         Do not wash driveways or sidewalks

·         Flooding gutters is prohibited.

·         Leaks must be fixed within 48 hours of being discovered.

·         Garden hoses must have a shutoff nozzle.

·         Do not water grass on public medians

·         Do not use potable water for dust control, compaction, sewer flushing or street cleaning.

·         Do not refill or top off decorative fountains.

Any violation of these restrictions will receive a written warning.  Second violations will result in a $25 fine and any subsequent violations will result in a $250 fine.
